Postdoctoral Position
The Department of Physics at Universidad de los Andes invites applications for a postdoctoral position in Theoretical Physics, to work in one of the following research groups and areas:
– Statistical Physics (Prof. Gabriel Téllez): stochastic thermodynamics, random matrices, soft matter, machine learning applications in statistical physics.
– Quantum Field Theory and Mathematical Physics (Prof. Andrés Reyes): quantum field theory, operator algebras and/or noncommutative geometry applications in physics.
– Quantum Many-Body Theory (Prof. Julián Rincón): tensor networks, machine learning, nonequilibrium dynamics, quantum computing.
The successful candidate will join an active and collaborative research environment with opportunities to interact with faculty, postdocs, and students across several areas of theoretical, mathematical and computational physics. The selected candidate will have a small teaching load per term (3 hours per week), lecturing on a first-year undergraduate physics course.
Position details:
- Start date: August 1, 2025
- Duration: 1 year, renewable for a second year upon mutual agreement, candidate performance and funding availability
Qualifications:
- Ph.D. in Physics or a closely related field
- A strong background relevant to one or more of the target research areas (statistical physics, quantum field theory, mathematical physics, tensor network methods, machine learning)
- Demonstrated ability to conduct independent research
- Interest in interacting with and mentoring graduate and undergraduate students
- Good command of English or Spanish
